New chip card technology is here!

02 July 2009

The next time you renew your Visa debit or credit card (or apply for a new one), you’ll benefit from even more secure technology – the embedded chip card. Teachers Credit Union is one of the first credit unions in Australia to introduce new chip card technology in our Visa debit and credit cards, on renewal or new application. It’s just another example of our dedication to providing members with the optimum security.

Chip card technology is fast becoming the new global standard for credit and debit cards, and offers better security than the magnetic strip, because the chip is more difficult to counterfeit. The new cards store your card number, card name and expiry date on an embedded microchip instead of the magnetic strip.

If you’re an existing Teachers Credit Card or Visa debit card cardholder you will receive your new card on renewal of your current card, or if ordering a replacement card. In addition, all applications from new cardholders will be issued as chip cards.

The cards feature a small gold shaped square – this is the chip. In addition, both cards have a fresh new design and a 3 year expiry date instead of 2 years.

If you would like to have a chip card before the expiry date of your current card you can request one by calling us. A card replacement fee of $10.00 will apply.
