Initiatives

We have taken numerous steps to reduce our environmental impact and engage our members and employees on issues of sustainability.

Minimising resources

To minimise our consumption of resources we:

have a recycling program
recycle all our toner cartridges through Planet Ark
use environmentally accredited paper stocks for internal use and marketing material
offset the carbon emissions of the car travel done by our Business Development Officers and mobile lenders
purchase 10% green energy for our Homebush and Rooty Hill offices
offer online statements for our members
implement new technology where feasible to minimise paper consumption.

We encourage our employees to play a part in reducing their environmental impact. For example we:

train all staff on our environmental policy and initiatives through Orientation and have training for existing staff where required
hold an annual employee fundraising event for the Teachers Environment Fund
post regular eco-tips on our intranet
encourage their ideas through our Bright Ideas Program on environmental issues.

We aim to provide opportunities for members to enhance their sustainability. For example we:

provide mobile phone recycling boxes in each of our offices
provide educational resources for their use in the classroom
developed the Teachers Environment Fund, which provides grants to schools for environmental projects.
